
Wine has been made in India for almost 5,000 years. Early European travellers to the courts of the Mughal emperors Akbar, Jehangir and Shah Jehan in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries A.D. reported tasting wines from the royal vineyards.
About 38 wineries are presently operating in India with a total production of ~6.2 million liters annually. Poor storage of the wine are the main problems of wine marketing in India.
